Types of ocean freigt

breakbulk

The "Break Bulk" mode of shipping is mainly concerned with cargo that is sent unitized but not inside standard sea containers. These are cargoes such as pallets, bales, drums, crates, as well as large machinery and motor vehicles.

Among the key features of "Break Bulk" shipping is the need to use conventional cranes for cargo handling during loading and unloading. This means that pumps or augers cannot be used to facilitate the handling process.

This mode of shipping offers several opportunities and advantages. For example, it makes it possible to transport large or particularly heavy goods that cannot be contained within normal containers. In addition, it can be suitable for shipments of goods that require special handling, such as complex machinery or large vehicles.

If you would like to learn more about "Break Bulk" shipping and understand how we can meet your specific needs, please contact us for a personalized consultation. We will be happy to provide you with additional information and assistance to ensure efficient and safe shipment of your unconventional cargo.

fcl

The acronym "FCL" stands for "Full Container Load" and is an ISO international standard for sending a full 20- or 40-foot container.

Advantages

  • Whole container shipping offers the lowest possible price per cubic yard of imported cargo.
  • This method allows for optimized packing and arrangement of goods to make maximum use of the available space in the container.
  • Compared to other shipping methods, the use of a whole container provides greater security and speed because there is no need to share space with third-party goods.

Disadvantage:

  • In cases where you wish to import goods with a volume of less than 15-20 cubic meters (i.e., less than 50-70% of a 20-foot container), renting an entire container may not be cost-effective. In such situations, it may be useful to share a container with other importers in the same situation.

ltcl

The acronym "LCL" stands for "Less than Container Load" and, in Italian, is commonly referred to as "groupage." This shipping method follows an international ISO standard, with the peculiarity that the container is shared by several importers who wish to ship their goods to the same destination port. It is mainly applied when the volume of goods to be transported is less than 50-70% of a 20-foot container.

Advantages

  • It offers a good compromise when the amount of cargo to be imported is too bulky for air freight, but not enough to justify renting an entire container (FCL).

Disadvantage:

  • The cost per cubic meter of imported goods could be higher than for an FCL shipment.
  • In cases where at least half a container can be filled, it may be preferable to opt for the FCL mode. However, these assessments should be made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the specific circumstances.

We offer shipping services on a global scale using 20 ft and 40 ft refrigerated containers, which are handled by specialized teams in full compliance with national and international regulations.

We carry out various checks to ensure the quality of our containers:

  1. Cleaning: a thorough cleaning is performed to remove unwanted dirt and odors.
  2. Verification of specifications: we check that the interior of the container is suitable for the specifications of the goods that will be stowed inside, especially food products.
  3. Machinery inspection: we ensure that all machinery is in working order and meets predefined standards.
  4. Temperature control: we check that the container correctly reaches and maintains the required temperatures according to the goods to be stored.

Once the inspections are completed, we place the date, time and name of the inspector on a label affixed to the container. This means you will always receive clean, healthy and safe containers equipped with temperature control machinery in perfect condition.

If a load exceeds the standard dimensions, it is considered an "out-of-gauge" load. There are also cases where the load might be within the dimensions of a standard container, but is so large or heavy that special equipment is required to handle both its size and weight.

Thanks to our vast experience accumulated over many decades, we have become experts in the field of transporting this type of cargo. We offer a wide selection of flat racks and have teams of specialists around the world to handle special transports. Our goal is to ensure first-class service for oversized loads wherever and whenever you need it.

There are several types of sea shipments that can be made and our experts evaluate a number of factors that meet safety, cost-effectiveness and logistical requirements. After an examination of the types of goods and the formats and/or containers to be used we will provide the customer with the best solution for their needs
